Series Spotlight - Oasis of Cool

Palm Springs is forever the Oasis of Cool.  With its perfect climate, brilliant blue skies and easy access to LA it is no wonder that since the 1930’s it has been a favourite weekend retreat.

The post-war boom brought changes to Palm Springs and a glittering new crowd.  And it’s architects did not hold back on their client’s briefs or budgets and transformed the town into an oasis of glass, steel and desert planting.  The Mid-Century Modern style they adopted became Desert Modernism and was characterised by sleek, single story buildings that blend indoors and outdoors with minimalist interiors, desert landscaping, lots of glass and dramatic flat roofs.

It’s no wonder that such a visual architectural feast caught the discerning, creative eye of photographer Irene Suchocki.  She has long appreciated the sleek and cool lines of Palm Springs and her distinctive and very personal collection beautifully captures the uniqueness of this place.

So escape to our desert hideaway and join us poolside under the shade of blue yuccas and tall palms as we celebrate this Oasis of Cool.
